THE TEACHING ARTIST // PART TIME
POSITION SUMMARY:The Teaching Artist (TTA) uses the creative process of art, culture, history, education, and wellness to improve and enhance the physical, mental and emotional well-being of people with challenging situations like dementia, Parkinson’s and stroke. OCC believes the creative process involved in artistic self-expression helps people to develop interpersonal skills, manage behavior, reduce stress, increase self-esteem and self-awareness and achieve insight in a therapeutic and meaningful way. The TTA develops, implements, and facilitates a variety of classes that maintain/enhance a participant’s cognitive, social and physical abilities and provides input member care plans.
Duties and Responsibilities // Be creative, fun, innovative and connect with the members
Create and facilitate a monthly schedule of innovative and person centered classes that utilizes the creative process of art, culture, history, education, and wellness to engage club members in group sessions as well as independent areas of opportunity.
Encourage members with special needs and circumstances to acquire new skills and become engaged by redirecting and scaling programs to best meet individual needs.
Confer with the interdisciplinary team to plan and evaluate therapy programs.
Visual Art talents in one or more areas such as: painting, mixed media, clay, fiber, wood working, etc. to promote lifelong learning
Must have a contagious interactive and charismatic personality
High School Graduate or equivalent, preferred Bachelor’s Degree in a related Field
Must have current DPS clearance and pass a background check
Previous experience in dementia care preferred
Day Clubs - A rad place for people to go that have a hard time taking care of themselves. Think of it as a place to hang with your friends, be artistic, remember the ol times, sing, laugh and be filled with joy.
Traditional Care Model - Bingo, feeding trays, people in scrubs, being talked to as a child, boring. #SorryNotSorryMembers - People we serve; not people with illnesses or patients that are sick. We call them members as if they are a part of an elite club whom are living with dignity and are treated with such.
Caregiver // On Call
Lend a helping hand to support members in the area of personal care, offering support and independance (bathroom assistance, showers, eating, ambulation, etc)
The glue:: This position is the glue that keeps things moving and supports the whole picture of what is going on in doing things like helping with serving snacks, lunch, kitchen clean up, etc. Ability to look around and see what needs to be done and get it done!

High School Diploma or Equivalent
Must have proof of negative recent TB test, ability to become CPR/First Aide certified and be issued clearance through DPS fingerprinting program.
