Veterans Day: Give Thanks to Those Who Gave So Much

Give Thanks This Veterans Day

November 11th is Veterans Day, a time to celebrate and give thanks to the many valiant men and women who so honorably and bravely served our country. As a non-profit organization, Oakwood Creative Care has the honor and privilege of providing care to our community’s seniors, many of whom are veterans like our very own Cedric.

Meet Cedric:

Having served in the United States Marine Corps, Cedric was a corporal and operated in motor transit, where he had the opportunity to travel and experience the many diverse cultures of countries such as Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, and Australia. During his time of service from 1985 to 1991, Cedric built relationships with many of the other Marines who served alongside him. Cedric still carries and treasures theses bonds to this day and recalls a time in which he was entrusted to escort his roommate, a fallen serviceman, back home to his family in Idaho.

Cedric first came to Oakwood Creative Care after having suffered a stroke six years ago, leaving him with partial paralysis and in a wheelchair. Being faced with certain cognitive or physical challenges can often be isolating and frustrating, but Cedric has been able to unlock and channel his creativity, be a part of a community, and find the joy in each day by coming to Oakwood.

Change Is Coming, But We Need Your Help

As Veterans Day gives us the opportunity to commemorate and gives thanks for the actions and sacrifices of those having served in our nation’s armed forces, we invite you to take a step forward into discovering the difference a day can make by donating your Arizona Tax Credit dollars towards continuing to revolutionize and reshape home and community-based services for our senior veterans.

The senior care community is presently faced with one of the largest gaps in funding – An alarming deficiency of only 2% of total philanthropic dollars. This deficit leaves a majority of senior care to fall onto the shoulders of families and care partners, an out-of-pocket expense that quickly racks up to over hundreds of thousands of dollars per person. Oakwood Creative Care sees the opportunity to lessen the weight of financial and emotional tolls that burden our senior communities by pursuing a mission in enhancing the quality of life and sparking joy for our elderly and veteran members, as well as their families and care partners – But we cannot do it without your help.
