5 Easy Ways You Can Help Support Oakwood Creative Care
October 14, 2020

Why Donate to Oakwood? Around our senior clubs, it’s no secret that we believe life should be FUN at every age! In fact, our mission statement is:

“To enhance the quality of life and spark joy for older adults with cognitive or physical challenges.”

When we get older and begin to experience new health challenges, this can feel difficult (or sometimes, impossible) for an aging person and their caregiver.

As a non-profit organization, we maintain the simple goal of providing care to seniors in need. Care that considers the person’s physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual wellbeing.

For some members, our clubs help people to retain their ability to stay home with their loved ones. Oakwood becomes a place they can go during the day to stay safe while having fun and building new memories. Simultaneously, this allows their family members to work, or tend to their personal lives which may otherwise be too difficult with a dependent family member at home.

For other members who do live in assisted care facilities away from home, Oakwood’s Day Clubs in Mesa, Arizona are a place for seniors to go and build new experiences, engage their minds and bodies, create friendships, and maintain a purpose-filled life.

Although everyone’s reasons for attending Oakwood are unique, most of Oakwood’s members struggle to remain fully independent, and require some level of care. We have many members with Alzheimer’s or other dementias, who struggle with the after effects of a stroke, or several other common age-related difficulties that may arise with seniors.

We strive to make quality care and engagement an affordable option to all,  offering grants and scholarships to families in need. Some costs are offset by insurance; however, we are unable to maintain our level of quality care without the helpful support of our community!

5 Ways You Can Help

#1. Donate

Today, only 2% of American philanthropic dollars are directed to elderly care. Every bit helps.

If you pay state taxes, you may be eligible for the Arizona tax credit when you donate to a Qualifying Charitable Organization (QCO) like Oakwood Creative Care. This is a dollar-for-dollar state income tax reduction. All qualifying donations come right back to you at tax time!

Singles can donate up to $400, and married couples can donate up to $800 and receive a complete tax reduction up to the amount donated – even if you do not itemize. Go here to donate or learn more: www.oakwoodcreativecare.org/donate/

#2. Attend an event

We host several fundraising events throughout the year, big and small. Some are online “virtual events” where we do fun things like learn to cook delicious recipes with Rosemary. Since Covid, we’ve had to reimagine how our in-person events can remain safe. This year, we’re looking forward to our Ultimate, Joy-Filled, Socially Distant Tailgate Party! Check out this and other events you can attend, here.

#3. Paint

Pre-Pandemic, many friends of Oakwood would attend our popular “paint nights” and create beautiful paintings, taught by our fantastic teaching artists. Lately, we’ve taken those painting events Virtual with our “Pandemic Paint Nights”. These are a great way to learn how to paint, have a fun evening, and support Oakwood Creative Care. Classes include art supplies! Check out upcoming painting events, here.

#4. AmazonSmile

The Simplest way to support Oakwood. When you shop with AmazonSmile, Amazon will donate 0.5% of your purchase to our non-profit.

To get started, simply go to: smile.amazon.com and choose “Oakwood Creative Care” as your chosen charity.

#5. Spread the word

If you know someone who could benefit from an adult day care, or whose life would benefit from engagement activities with an emphasis on memory care or physical health for seniors, have them give us a call to try out a free session at one of our clubs.

Or, if you know a local business who would like to give back to the community’s seniors, please let them know about our Event Sponsorship Opportunities.

Additionally, follow us on Facebook and Instagram to help us spread awareness about the needs of seniors and those with Alzheimer’s, dementia, stroke, or other age-related issues. We frequently update with new events to attend, items in our store, and ways to show your support!
