Oakwood Creative Care Presents: The Perfect Place

The Perfect Place For Healthy Aging

Having access to reliable and convenient senior care solutions is pertinent in fostering a higher quality of life for adults living with challenges such as Alzheimer’s and other dementias. Our hope is to continue bridging the gaps that would otherwise make it difficult for seniors and their families to engage in moments of joy and find hope in light of their diagnosis.

One year ago, Oakwood Creative Care was approached by The Perfect Place, a non-profit adult day services center in Sun Lakes, to join us in our vision of bridging the gaps through reigniting light, hope, and purpose for seniors within their community.

Senior Care Services For The Sun Lakes Community

Oftentimes, families and carepartners are faced with the difficult dilemma of sourcing outside support for their loved ones, so they can continue to attend work and delegate time for mental health and self-care. Constraints like these push families towards excessive travel and financial expenditures to reach carepartner teams built to care for their aging loved ones – while the caregivers, themselves, look to find respite and comfort in knowing their loved ones are in good hands.
For many years prior to her passing, Sun Lakes resident Wayne Mangold was a caregiver for his wife, Hanne. He’d drive nearly 400 miles per week to Phoenix, Tempe, and Mesa so Hanne could receive the services she needed throughout her care journey.

Wayne expressed to Oakwood Creative Care’s President and CEO, Sherri Friend, that he and his wife had moved to Sun Lakes because it was a retirement community, expecting to have access to everything they needed to retire well. However, throughout his care partner journey, Wayne found the need for a solution that would bring vital senior services to the Sun Lakes area.

Creative Engagement Partners

Aspiring to help other families in the southeast valley facing similar challenges, Wayne and Sherri brought together social service organizations in the community. Together, they helped to create a Memory Cafe and  Music therapy program for the Sun Lakes Community. This initiative became known as Creative Engagement Partners, a nonprofit organization which aims to collaborate with community leaders to create local opportunities for memory impaired families.

Among these community leaders was the Executive Director of The Perfect Place, who recognized the value of collaboration and approached Oakwood’s CEO, Sherri, about combining efforts in order to enhance the services being offered through The Perfect Place.

Oakwood Creative Care Presents: The Perfect Place

In moving towards ensuring more families and communities have local access to innovative care solutions, we’re excited to officially announce Oakwood Creative Care’s merger with The Perfect Place!

Throughout this journey, we’ve learned that an official partnership between our two organizations would elevate the potential for more revolutionary programs —providing the stability needed to optimize solutions much closer to home for local residents.

Oakwood Creative Care and The Perfect Place look forward to sharing our familiar yet unique creative-based paradigm of thinking to the Sun Lakes community come January of 2022. This partnership will secure access to holistic engagement opportunities centered around treating the mind, body, and spirit of each member without having to venture too far away from home. Together, we will continue to help the Sun Lakes community discover the difference a day can make.

Welcome

We're a nonprofit organization based in Mesa, Arizona with three senior day club locations (and a fourth on the way) which serve older adults with Alzheimer's, dementia, Parkinson's, and various other physical or cognitive challenges. Life does not end with a diagnosis. Our members continue to learn new skills, enjoy new discoveries, make friends, laugh, and live a joy-filled life. Our team of dementia experts lead support groups, events, classes, and private sessions with caregivers and families, guiding them on the best methods to care for their loved ones while also caring for themselves.
