Welcome to Oakwood Creative Care!
August 11, 2022
Through hope and creativity, Oakwood Creative Care transforms the lives of seniors with Alzheimer’s, dementia, Parkinson’s, and other age-related challenges by reigniting purpose and dignity beyond a diagnosis. As a nonprofit organization, our mission is to enhance the quality of life and spark joy for aging adults through the unique and innovative programs offered at each of our Day Clubs. Founded in 1975 by a group of women who dreamt of an alternative to costly in-home and institutional care, Oakwood was created with a vision of allowing seniors to remain in their homes, stay connected to their communities, and ensure their healthcare needs are being met. Today, Oakwood offers engaging experiences that allow aging loved ones the opportunity to find new friends, interests, talents, and, most importantly, joy!

Arizona Day Clubs That Bring Back The JOY In Aging

Oakwood Creative Care: Senior Day Clubs in Mesa and Sun Lakes Arizona
At Oakwood, we’re saying NO to scrubs, bingo cards, and silly sing-a-long songs! Instead, our three Day Clubs, which are located in the Mesa and Sun Lakes area, offer a variety of immersive and age-appropriate programs designed to keep hearts and minds engaged by focusing on our members’ strengths, interests, and wellness. Leading these programs are our engagement teams full of talented teachers, cognitive engagement specialists, teaching artists, and musicians. Altogether, Oakwood’s teams are passionate about delivering enriching and engaging experiences that enhance the mind, body, and spirit of our members.
Although our aging loved ones might experience impairments in thinking, memory, and judgment, research tells us that individuals can still communicate visually through the creative center of their brains – even when they are no longer verbal. Knowing this, Oakwood focuses on amplifying the spirits and voices of our members by giving them a creative outlet that encourages their way of self-expression. Hey, Caregivers – Oakwood Is Here For You Too!

Oakwood recognizes how the impacts of Alzheimer’s, dementia, and other age-related issues can affect the entire family. For this reason, we provide services, education, and support for all caregivers and families to help them navigate through diagnosis and beyond. Every month, Oakwood offers free Care Partner Support Groups where caregivers and families can connect with some of Oakwood’s Experts, ask questions, share stories, and spark new friendships with other members of the community who share and understand this journey. These support groups are hosted at Oakwood’s Town Center Day Club located in the east valley but are open to any and all families seeking support, resources, and community.
Memory Cafés are also available to care partners through Oakwood’s latest development: the Dementia Hub. As the first of its kind in Arizona offering local resources for innovative dementia support, the Dementia Hub is where families can come to connect with the right people, resources, and training fit for every stage of dementia progression.

The Dementia Hub also offers COPE Dementia Coaching Sessions that allow care partners and families to work one-on-one with a COPE-trained Occupational Therapist and Nurse Practitioner to implement innovative and practical strategies to address dementia-specific challenges at home.

Welcome

We're a nonprofit organization based in Mesa, Arizona with three senior day club locations (and a fourth on the way) which serve older adults with Alzheimer's, dementia, Parkinson's, and various other physical or cognitive challenges. Life does not end with a diagnosis. Our members continue to learn new skills, enjoy new discoveries, make friends, laugh, and live a joy-filled life. Our team of dementia experts lead support groups, events, classes, and private sessions with caregivers and families, guiding them on the best methods to care for their loved ones while also caring for themselves.
